YWCA and Pennsylvania Downtown Center Mural Project
York, Pennsylvania
Peace Garden and Mural in the Olde Towne East district of York, PA.
In the summer of 2008, I managed a mural project that united over 50 community members to complete a four-panel mural and revitalize a dilapidated lot. As the Lead Mural Intern for the project, I worked with the PDC, the Mural Arts Program and YWCA of York, PA to create a community inspired mural with the theme of peace, as well acquire community support to clean and revive the litter ridden lot it overlooked. Over the course of twelve weeks, we networked with eight neighborhood committees and youth groups to design, paint and install a four-pane mural. I managed a budget consisting of $2,000 as well as over four project donations and over 50 project volunteers. At the conclusion of the program, I along with another intern organized a park and mural dedication to celebrate the success of the project.
